A lot of apps will rip songs from CD to Mp3 or wav, but not many do it great or consistantly.Additionally, not many support more than a few formats. Being a software freak and backup freak, I have learned to use many of these apps and decide which ones I think are the best in class.
Our choices:
Exact Audio Copy - Free and claims to rip perfect duplicates, and seems to do just that. It does an in depth configuration with your CD burner making it seem very professional right off the installation bat. It supports many file types including .ape .mp3 .wav .flac and others as long as you have them installed. It also normalizes while ripping and creates ID Tags. This is the favorite here.
DBPoweramp - This is on the list because it will rip to .ape format, which I store all my purchased CDs in. It is a bit buggy and sometimes gets hosed up, but works again after a restart (the app not your pc)
Audio-Grabber - Ok, unique function here. It will rip CD+G CDs to a usable file! English? ok, it will rip karaoke CDs, audio AND video. Very cool when used with software that will play back CD+G. This one is free
Remember the first time you tried to copy/paste songs from a CD and got a 1kb icon out of the deal? Man I felt stupid when I found out how to do it.
